Abstract
Omphalocele is a congenital malformation which is a herniation of bdominal viscera into the base of the umbilical cord.
Because the sac wall of the omphalocele is apt to rupture and has a very low resistance to bacterial invasion, an emergency surgical correction is imperative.
This survey has presented 8 cases of omphalocele who were treated at the dept. of 4 hospitals (SRCH, SNUH, NMC, HANIL) for the last 6 years, and reviewed literatures.
The results are summairzed as follows:
1) The sex ratio was M:F=3:1. The average body weight of 8 cases was 2,150gm (1,700¡2,700gm).
2) In 2 cases, associated anomalies were found. One had a polydactily, and the other a Meckel¢¥s diverticulum.
3) 4 cases had been(operated upon, and resulted in 2 of death and 2 of recovery.
